Darbiem par ārvalstīs dzīvojošajiem latviešiem, kuri dzimuši ārpus savas etniskās dzimtenes, piešķir atbilstošu tematisko priekšmetu, piem., Latviešu izcelsmes amerikāņi. Source: Latviešu literārās valodas vārdnīca, 1980: Šeit apkopoti darbi par latviešiem kā etnosu. Šo priekšmetu nepakārto ar ģeogrāfiskā nosaukuma apakšiedaļu Latvija. Darbiem par latviešiem, kuri dzīvo ārpus savas etniskās dzimtenes, piešķir tematisko priekšmetu Latviešu diaspora vai šāda veida tematisko priekšmetu Latvieši [valsts nosaukums], piem., Latvieši Amerikas Savienotajās Valstīs; Latvieši Zviedrijā.
