NLL Ontology Service
The National Library of Latvia Ontology Service publishes the National Thesaurus ontologies in the form of linked data:
The thematic subject ontology includes categories characterizing the content of various information resources - abstract concepts, terms from various fields, names of holidays, architectural objects (arches, churches, monasteries, cathedrals, etc. religious buildings, manors and castles, monuments, memorial ensembles, names of specific buildings, etc.), mythological and fictional characters, historical events, cultural and historical periods, trends (in art, literature, economics, etc.), movements, people and ethnic groups, languages, etc.
The geographical names ontology includes administrative (countries, regions, counties, districts, provinces, cities, parishes, villages) and non-administrative (planets, continents, oceans, seas, rivers, islands, mountains, forests, cultural and historical regions, non-administrative parts of cities, ports, railway stations, railway lines, disappeared cities, archaeological sites, cemeteries, national parks and nature reserves, parks, gardens, etc.) place names.
The form/genre ontology includes categories that characterize the form or genre of various information resources, such as biographies, encyclopedias, catalogs, dictionaries of terms, poetry, prose (Latvian prose, English stories), etc.
The basic concepts are mainly in Latvian; additional name forms are in English, Latin, Finnish, German and other languages.
The concepts from these datasets can be used to describe the content and form or genre of various information resources.
Each ontology concept has its own unique URI identifier, which can be used to uniquely reference that resource.
The datasets are published in the form of linked open data using Skosmos, which provides a multilingual user interface for browsing and searching ontology concepts, as well as for visualizing concept hierarchies.
